Greenwich United
Greenwich United Competition Team
Greenwich United is the GYCL's Competition Cheerleading Team! The United cheerleading team is made up of cheerleaders in 5th-8th grade from all 5 GYCL teams! The goal of this team is to get cheerleaders from across the town working together as one team and ultimately getting them ready to cheer at Greenwich High School.
United will hold 1 tryout sessions the first weekend in June. At tryouts, your athlete will be asked to show us their jumps, tumbling, learn and perform a dance, and learn and perform a cheer!
United will run from June to the end of March. Practicing 1-2 times per week and competing at 3-6 competitions throughout Connecticut.
This team was started in 2012 as an Exhibition Team to perform at the Fairfield County High School Cheerleading Championships. In 2013, the coaches decide to enroll the team in competitions throughout Connecticut. It was a great decision because the Greenwich United team has won many competitions throughout Connecticut!
For more information on enrolling your athlete for the Greenwich United Competition team, please email Sidney Ambrogio or Lauren Bria gyclunited@gmail.com. All participants must have cheered on a GYCL team in current season.

Meet The Coaching Staff
Coach Sidney
Sidney Ambrogio begins her 7th season as the Director of Greenwich United. During the workday, Sidney is an administrative assistant for AP Accounting and Tax Services or snapping many photos of her new bundle of joy, Charlotte.
Sidney began her cheer career when she was in 3rd grade when she joined the GYCL and cheered for the Glenville Mavericks. Sidney cheered all 6 years for the Glenville Mavericks and went on to cheer at Greenwich High school as well. Sidney was also a coach for the Glenville Mavericks throughout her high school career. During high school, Sidney was a dancer for a local dance studio and traveled to Germany to dance abroad multiple times raising funds for special education schools in the town they were housed in. Sidney graduated from Greenwich High School with the class of 2017 and is excited to coach for the same program that she once cheered for. After high school, Sidney went on to get a degree in general studies. Sidney plans on going back to school for a degree in education in hopes to be a kindergarten teacher!
As a founding teammate of the original Greenwich United team in 2012, this program means the world to Sidney. Taking strides to improve this program, alongside the wonderful group of coaches, Sidney has introduced new uniforms twice in those five years, brought the team to NCA Camp in the summer of 2024, brought on many new coaches to better the program and overall aimed to improve the difficulty this team was capable of! Sidney was the Freshman head coach at Greenwich High School from 2022-2025 where she assisted the program to their triple crown title in 2025!
Currently, Sidney is the President of the GYCL! Sidney is also entering her second season as the Varsity head coach for Darien High School. She coaches 7 days a week and is truly dedicated to the sport of cheerleading.
Go Greenwich Cheer!
Coach Lauren
Lauren is entering her 3rd season with Greenwich United! She began cheer in 2003 as a third grader with the North Mianus Bulldogs and became the first Bulldog cheerleader to complete all six seasons. She continued her passion for the sport at Greenwich High School as a member of the varsity cheer team.
During her senior year, Lauren volunteered with Spirit All Stars’ first unified team, Alexandrites, helping athletes with special needs compete alongside her varsity teammates, an experience that deeply shaped her coaching perspective.
After graduating from GHS in 2013, she attended Southern Connecticut State University and competed at the NCA College Nationals her freshman year before transferring to the University of Rhode Island, where she earned a degree in Graphic Design and Communication Studies.
With over 20 years of cheerleading experience, Lauren is passionate about building confident, goal driven athletes. She currently serves as an assistant coach at Greenwich High School, helping lead the varsity team to the 2026 Team Of The Year title.
Outside of coaching, Lauren has taken a step back from corporate work and is currently a nanny for a family. She enjoys spending time at the beach, especially Tod’s Point, and being with family and friends.
Lauren is excited to continue her coaching journey with Greenwich United, helping athletes grow both on and off the mat in this full circle moment.

Coach Alexis
Alexis has been involved in cheerleading for nearly her entire life. She started as the first Cos Cob Crushers mascot at just three years old and continued cheering with the Crushers through 8th grade, including two years competitively on the GYCL United team. In high school, she joined the Greenwich High School Varsity Cheer Team as a freshman and remained on the team all four years, serving as captain her senior year.
She went on to attend Rutgers University and, while she didn’t cheer in college, her love for the sport never faded. Alexis is excited to begin coaching because it allows her to stay connected to cheer and give back to the community that shaped her. Throughout her years of experience, Alexis developed a deep appreciation for the values teamwork and trust which are qualities she hopes to instill in her athletes.
Alexis currently works as a Recruiting Coordinator at iCapital in Greenwich, CT. She is eager to bring her passion for cheer to GYCL, where she can mentor young athletes and help them grow both competitively and personally. She is excited to create a supportive environment where athletes can thrive, celebrate their progress, and develop a lifelong love for the sport.
