Coaches Registration

This registration Page is solely used for approved coaches who have received approval through your teams director. The GYCL is solely run off of volunteers like yourself and we would love to have your help coaching a squad this season! If you are interested in coaching, please reach out to your teams director for more information!

Coaches Requirements

Cheer Director: Must also be a Head Coach and meet Head Coach requirements below. The Cheer Director is responsible for but not limited to: All team specific communications, working with corresponding football team, ensuring all coaches meet GYCL Requirements, reporting issues and violations back to the Board, supplying uniforms & gear to team, recruiting athletes and coaches for team, maintaining their team’s social media and websites, supplying First Aid gear, rosters & safety information to coaches, scheduling practices and supervising all squads.

Coach/Head Coach: Mus be a minimum of 21 years or older. Must be CPR, first aid and AED certified every two years. Must also take online concussion course every two years. Must sign & adhere to current 2024 Coaches Code of Conduct & 2024 Rules & Regulations. Responsible for all cheers, music, and choreography of the squad. This position involves instruction and supervision.

Assistant Coach: Assistant Coaches are a minimum of 18 years of age to a maximum of 21 year of age with prior cheerleading or coach trainee experience. Must be CPR, first aid and AED certified every two years. Must also take online concussion course every two years. Must sign & adhere to current 2024 Coaches Code of Conduct & 2024 Rules & Regulations. Assists with cheers, music, and choreography of the squad. This position involves assisting head coach with instruction and supervision. Assistant coaches work in the presence of Head Coach.


The head coach has the responsibility for their actions, his/her assistant coaches, staff and parents & must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Every squad shall have 1 head coach. After 13 participants, there must be an assistant coach 18 years or older.

Every coach needs to be certified in CPR, First Aid, AED and complete the online concussion training. Copies of the certification cards/certificates need to be turned into the GYCL Vice President of Administration and Coaching NO LATER than Aug 15th of current year.

New coaches added late must complete all required certifications before attending any practices, games, or team events of any kind. At the discretion of the director, new coaches may be appointed that meet the requirements and are deemed a good fit. They must not have prior complaints or Code of Conduct Violations.

Coaches’ registration will open May 1st of the current year.

The head of each organization (a.k.a. cheer director) needs to complete the NFHS Cheer and Dance Safety coach’s certification. Copies of these certificates need to be turned into the GYCL Vice President of Administration and Coaching NO LATER than Aug 15th of current year. The NFHS Cheer and Dance Safety course should be renewed every 3 years.

Coaches must sign the 2024 Rules and Regulations and 2024 Coaches Code of Conduct and turn into the GYCL Vice President of Administration and Coaching NO LATER than Aug 15th of current year. Failure to do so will result in coaches not being allowed to be on the field with the participants until it is signed.

All coaches should attend the hands-on stunting clinic/ Rules & Reg Review if offered by the GYCL.

Cheer Director and head coach should remain up to date on all safety regulations and update all other coaches when necessary.

There shall be a minimum ratio of 1 coach to a maximum of 13 cheerleaders. Any squad exceeding 26 girls must get a 3rd coach over minimum 18 years of age.

Head coach should approve all cheers, chants, music & other activities of the squad.

Coaches must always have on hand (practice and games) the emergency information and consent for treatment forms as well as first aid kits. Coaches must fill out appropriate accident/injury report forms. There should be one physical copy of all athlete’s emergency information and consent for treatment present at all times.

Any coach that quits a team during the season without valid reason is subject to being prohibited to coach the following season.

All coaches (Jr Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Head coaches) must wear proper coaching attire. Appropriate coaching attire is defined by the GYCL Board, but is not limited to: Shirts that cover the midriff, shorts that fully cover your rear, proper athletic footwear, proper undergarments deemed suitable for athletics, no jewelry, etc.

You must obtain written permission from team cheer director or league president before any use of team’s logo within the league including GYCL and GYFL teams and Greenwich United. No one can reprint our logo(s) on any apparel, gear, merchandise or any other items for personal use, distribution, or sale without such permission in writing.

2026 Coaches Registration

Thank you for volunteering to coach with the GYCL! Roughly 300 athletes participate every year, and we can't do this without help from volunteer coaches like yourself! Once your team assignment is finalized, you should receive an email from your Director or Head Coach.
